Hon. Richard Yates,
Dear Sir, I have just arived in the City, from Champaign City, Champaign County, to see you for a few moments, and wished to return on the first train, that will leave the city for the east. would it be of too much inconvenience to you, to give me a few moments interview this evening. The object of my visit is, with a patition to you, from some of the principal citizens of Champaign asking you for the position of Commissary Sergeant in the Regiment now forming in our vicinity, for the service of the war, or three years, and to assemble at Kankakee - for myself - I would be glad to have an interview this evening, but if it is inconvenient to you I will a-wait your pleasure. I am aware of your domestic affliction and do not wish to incomode you being a father myself.
Respectfully Yours,
Wm. B. Armstrong
