His Excellency,
Richard Yates, Governor &c.
The Undersigned, leader of a band, known as the "Union Silver Cornet Band" of Springfield, Ills. an old established band, consisting of persons who have long been residents of this place, and are well known as citizens & musicians, would respectfully ask your Excellency to be assigned to some Brigade, either already formed or in process of formation.
In case our Excellency should not see proper to make this appointment for the time being, we beg that our petition may be considered by your Excellency before those of any other band or bands that may offer their services,
If desired, the best of references will be given.
