To all whom it may concern

Sergeant N. W. Campbell of the 12th Ill Inftry now in the recruiting service for this regt has been connected with this Regt for over one year & has alway been a prompt, faithful, efficient soldier. He was in the battles of Donelson & Shiloh & behaved with coolness courage. From his knowledge of military matters, as well as from his experience he is fitted to take charge of a company. He was in command of Co "G" of this regt for some two months
