I particularly request a suspension of the third provision of order no. 100 in the case of Col. S. G. Hicks of the 40th Ills Regt. He was severely wounded at the battle of Shilo, and has not yet been able to join his command , but will be in a few days. A more gallant & deserving officer does not exist in the service. His place could hardly be supplied. He has lead his regiment most bravely. He desires still to lead it, & his Regiment wants him, and the service will be benefited by returning him.
I also ask a like suspension on the case of Capt. Stewart of same regt. who is a gallant officer & whom the col wishes to return with him.
