Dear Governor.
This will be handed you by Thomas A McLaurie Esqr. who goes to Springfield for an Appointment of Quarter Master of one of the New Regiments forming here.
I have known Mr McLaurie for many years, and can commend him to you as a high minded Gentleman, as a man who has been doing good service, not only in his own and adjoining Counties but here, in arousing the people to the importance of immediate Volunteering. As a man with a heart and soul and who would see the Army regulations carried out to the letter with strict regard to honesty and integrity. and it would give me great pleasur if Consistent with your duties to see him appointed
