Sir
I take the liberty to ask a favor of you I am a widow was left a widow five years ago on a small farm that was union proud with seven small children one son being my only suport we struggled and laboured keep our little ones to gather and endured many hardships and so far we have been successfull when their was to much excitement my son was persuaded and frightened togather under those circumstances he enlisted without my consent and I did not
give it he is a minor and had no right to volunteer he is all I have to look to in this wide world if you take him you begar my children our own Country here is drained of men there is not enough left to keep the [woemen?] in firewood Sir I know our Country is in a bad condition but we are threatened here by the rebels of Mo and our men have all left what is to become of us and our little ones now Sir I do beg of you to grant that my son may stay at home Col Bailey enlisted him he is a hard hearted man and would not let him off allthough I never consented for him to go the others let off several minors now Sir do please grant my request
that is that my son may stay at home I could refer you to Dr O S Campbell of this place and many others that were acquainted with my circumstances but time is short
now Sir I do beceach your majesty to grant my request by sending me a few lines permitting my son to stay at home
