Dear Sir:
Arthur M .Kinzie is one of the young men who hastened from Chicago to the defence of Cairo at the commencement of the war. After serving out his three months he was honorably discharged, and has since been one of my Aides de Camp.
He has served with men Missouri and Kansas, and lately here in South Carolina, as Colonel of the 1st Reg. of South Carolina Volunteers, the Reg. which so much troubled poor Mr. Wickliffe. He is anxious to obtain a Majority in one of your new Regiments, and to go on active duty with his Reg. If you can serve him you will place me
under many obligations.
