His Excellency,

Gov. Yates:

This will be handed you by my friend, Bryant Bartlett, Esq. of this place.

I wish to serve my Country in some manner, better than I am now doing. Can you put me in some place where I will be enabled to do it?

I will not trouble you with a long request. Mr B. will tell you what I can do. I will only add, that honors and emoluments are not what I want, but to be serviceable, at moderate compensation.

I can also refer you to Col. John G. Fonda at Camp Butler.
