Post Office, Chicago, Ill.,
Jany 5th 1863.
My Dear Sir
As Gov. Yates, at the present time, must be overwhelmed with business of the gravest moment, I write you rather than him, for the purpose of having you solicit him in my behalf, to order the removal to one of the Military Hospitals in this city of Silas D. Pearson, private of Co. C. 72 Ill. Infantry, now in the Hospital at Mound City Ill. Pearson is afflicted with rheumatism, and has been in hospital for nearly three months. His recovery is doubtful, He has friends in this city, and thinks if he could be brought where he could see his family and receive their ministrations, he would certainly get well. If he cannot, he fully believes he will die. I am very anxious that he should be transferred, if it is possible to have it done, and you will oblige me personally by interesting yourself in the matter, and advising me of the result.
Truly Yours
