To his excellency Gov R Yates
Sir
having been in the service of the US and having served out my time I am willing to go and assist in commanding a company of negroes if you will assist me in getting a situation in a company. My constitution is not sufficient to endure the hardships to which a private is exposed. For information corning my abilities and qualifications apply to Capt Snyder of Decatur Illinois formerly of Co E 70th. Regt Ills Vols.
