Office of the Circuit Clerk & Recorder of Cook County.
Chicago May 25 1863
Dear Governor,
This morning I advised you by mail of the death of our Judge Manierre of the Circuit Court, the public interest requires that a successor should be elected at an early day as our docket is large and litigants and attorneys are anxious to have their cases disposed of
As I understand the Law the Gov is to order an election, and a notice is then to be given to the electors twenty days. We have a regular term of the Court commencing July 13. and by issuing the order for election immediately we will have time to give the notice, canvass the votes, and get the Commission for the Judge Elect for that Court, Will you oblige the members of the Bar, Suitors, and the Clerk, by issuing this order at an early day.
Hoping to hear of your speedy recovery, and that you may be able to pass the batteries of Vicksburgh without harm, soon I remain Yours Truly
