His Excellency Gov Yates

Springfield Ills

Dear Sir

In the event of the President calling for a 100,000 or any number of men to wipe out Richmond, and relieve our suffering boys, now prisoners of war in that second nest treason. I wish you to give me authority to get up a company of fighting men. I can do it. I will be most happy to do so.

While I remain

Respectfully
