Mary Lincoln to unknown

Description

Mary Lincoln writes to an unknown correspondent requesting the services of Charles Forbes for the day. Charles Forbes was Lincoln's personal attendant from 1861 until Lincoln's assassination. He was present at Ford's Theatre when the President was shot. Years later Robet Todd Lincoln was quoted as saying: "He was a personal servant at the White House in my father's time and earned unusual esteem by his fidelity & competence."
