My Dear Friend
Mrs Stanton Ellie & I reached here last evening, and are at Mrs Isaac Bells. It is our purpose to reach home this week, and we shall therefore not be able to accept your kind invitation to your country residence. There are many things to be talked of between us, but time and opportunity are not for the present under our control, and in the meantime, events are ripening into results which might now be unperceived. We have had a delightful trip at every stage, and the health of Mrs Stanton, as well as my own is greatly improved. I beg you to present my kindest regards to Mrs & Miss Pierrepont & Master {Edward?] & believe me ever truly Yours
Edwin M Stanton
