Dear Madam:

Ten years ago your father rendered me a service beyond value. It was done in my absence and when I was an entire stranger to him. As soon as I knew of the service, I tried to write him my thanks. Once afterwards I had the pleasure of meeting him and speaking

my thanks.

His conduct in this incident revealed to me a phase of his character that made him greater in my estimation than all that was ever claimed for him by reason of his genius as an actor.

In the inclosed clipping I endeavored to say something of the kindness of his heart as I know it in my experience, and I beg to be allowed to convey to you, his daughter, my heartfelt tribute to his worth.

Respectfully Yours,

W. H. Chamberlin
