My dear Edwina
How can I express my sympathy to you in this sad affliction and my own sense of loss. Your dear father was so beloved by us all. So gentle, sweet, and noble when we saw him last in this house
What a loss is wonderful genius is to all the world. We feel our hearts so drawn to you dear Edwina and your little ones his only representatives. We shall hope to see you when we all return and Ethel joins me in
love and wishes for your happiness. This sad blow will long hang over us all, and you will have to try and bear it for the sakes of all your loved ones. Please give our kindest regards and sympathies to Mr Grossman and
this winter we all felt how sweet it was of him to come though not feeling strong to see the portrait of [McCulloch?] And Ethel and I were so grateful to have a little visit from him. We shall always remember him as such a noble friend so gifted
[written vertically across page 1] believe me ever most affectionately your friend
