Hon R. Yates.

Gov of Ill.

Dear Sir:

I have been wounded at the Battle of Murfreesborough. My wounds are some better now but I am troubled severely with rheumatism which is the result of the long and hard marches endured by our Division. I desire to be transferred from this Hospital to my own State for treatment, and will be very thankful to you if you inform me whether this can be done. I would also desire to have the opportunity of visiting my friends as now am out nearly two years in service and have

never yet had any opportunity of seeing any of them.

Indiana soldiers in this Hosp. are getting transfers to their own State and I think it very unfair if our State cannot have privilege to do the same.

Please inform me as desired and oblige

Your humble servant

Joel Hyatt. Co. C. 59 Ill. Vol.

Jeferson C Davis' Division,
