Hon Richard Yates

Dr Sir

I am in a fix

My friends have presented my name to the administration as a suitable person to "receive the appointment of Secret Mail Agent for the NorthWest

I am endorsed in Kane County by the Board of Supervisors - County Clerk - Count Judge - County Treasurer - Circuit Clerk - Sheriff - Chairman County Central Committee - Circuit Judge of the 13th Judicial Circuit & others - Also a strong endorsement from DeKalb County where I now reside

I lack the endorsement of W B Plato of Kane Co who may not oppose, but will not assist me, because of my action in the Decatur Convention as I understand he attributes the loss (in a measure) of his favorite candidate in that convention to me - Can Springfield do me any good

I wish to have the best strings pulled & that as soon as possible -

My matters will be in J F Farnsworth's hands in a few days

Please advise & oblige yours &C
