Telegraph Office Feb 25th
Hon Rich'd Yates
Dear Sir
Pardon this intrusion, but these troublous times when loyal men must fight, and loyal women bravely earn their own bread at home, makes me bold.
I have been engaged during the last six months in keeping the books of this office. Since the close of the Session of the Legislature, the business is not sufficiently heavy to require my services. I must look elsewhere for employment Can I find it at the State House? Is there no copying or other writing which a woman might do, and will you exert your influence in my behalf? I refer you to Judge Caton or Col Fildon (Supt of the Tel Line) who is my brother in law. Again, excuse the liberty
I have taken prompted by the knowledge of your kindness, and humanity to others.
A reply will reach me at this office during the present week.
Very Truly &c&c
