Sir:
I understand a strong pressure has been, and a stronger one will be made, to induse you in the event Colonel Macks resignation should be final, to ignore my right, and commission Major Dubois, or some one else, Colonel of the 76th Regiment. I am confident your Honor will not do me that injustice, unless my incompetency is alledged, in which case, I trust you will give me a chanse to refute the charges. I can produce any required amount of evidense of my Loyalty, competency and ability, and the entire good will of the Regiment. Trusting you will consider my claim as just, I am Sir
