Sir:

There is in this city a most accomplished man, a Hungarian, who is a topographical Engineer, and was a Lieutenant in that service in his own country. He is a true man and a patriot and wants to serve the country of his adoption in this time of its trial, in that capacity where he is the most competent. Will he not be wanted in a body of Engineers to accompany our volunteers. He is ready and anxious to respond to any call. Please have your military secretary answer this.

Yours

E B Washburne

Gov. Yates.

P.S. His name is A. G. Scheller and he can be made most useful. E.B.W.
