Dr
Sir
I am near forty six and without excessive fatigue enjoy tolerable health. Am Pastor of An evangelical Chh in this village some of whom have Volunteered in the army and are now at Springfield or other posts beyond I have a practical experiance and of many years in one branch of Surgery and much experiance in the general practice of Medicine & Surgery. Having been twenty years connected with the same My education in Medicine in surgery will average with practicians generally I write to ask
1st Are Chaplains allowed to the Volunteer troops?
2d If so how chosen & Paid?
3d Are the duties such as a sound man with verry moderate power of physical endurance can perform?
Feeling extremely desirous to serve our common country and especially desirous to serve our volunteer force. And thus asking that as a chaplain I might minister to the Spiritual wants and at the same time in emergency be a valuable assistant to the Surgical corps among the wounded, on the field, or in the hospital, I ask for information on the above points that I may determine the line of duty As to seeking an appointment as chaplain
Any information connected with the above
will be greatfully received
Pardon this intrusion uppon your valuable time
And May the God of Battles Preserve your Honor and our Glorious Union with Sincere Respect
