Hon. E M. Stanton
Secretary of War.
Washington City
Sir: This will be presented by my friend Hon. William A Grimshaw a delegate to the National Convention an eminent lawyer of our State. He has a Brother, Col Grimshaw of 4th Del. Vols. commanding Brigade in the Army of the Potomac whom he desires particularly to visit, and I have also commissioned him to visit the Army for the purpose of looking after Illinois troops and render aid as a Sanitary Commissioner in care of the sick and wounded. I
would respectfully request you to give him an order which will secure his uninterrupted transit to the Army with such facilities as may be necessary from the Medical Department as will secure his recognition in camps or Hospitals where Illinois troops may be found.
Very Respectfully
Richd Yates
