Gov Yates
Dr Sir
I have just learned that Capt Feltman Provost Marshal of 7th District has tendered his resignation I should be glad to receive the appointment I write to solicit your aid. I suppose the appointment would be made through proper channels. If you can and it would not be asking too much will you be so kind as to intercede for me with Col Oakes. I am too unwell to come to Springfield at present will perhaps be able to come by Saturday. I should not trouble you knowing the many applications you have for assistance, but I very much need a position, and I think I can bring enough influence to bear
With your influence to warrant me in making the effort you can learn better than any one if the resignation has been tendered I hope you will be so disposed as to assist me in this matter and should I succeed I can perhaps be of infinite service to you hereafter to be Candid it is as much or more a matter of Dollars and Cents as anything else this is the reason I am so urgent in my supplications Knowing you are well acquainted with my situation All my life almost I can speak with more freedom -
Yours Respectfully
