His Excellency Governor Yates
Dear Sir: Though a stranger to you, personally, yet in common with a large majority of the Union party in this (Logan) county, nothing would give me greater pleasure than to hear of your Excellency being elected to the United State Senate by the next Legislature. With proper exertion I have no doubt, that we will have a good working majority in that body, and it is important in this county, at least, that we should “run” a true friend of yours! Such a man is David T. Suttler, Esq., of this place. He is a young gentleman of decided ability in the legal profession – is popular and would make a good canvass
I think he would secure several Democratic votes.
Anything you can do to help him would be to your advantage. I write this note without any solicitation whatever, and being merely prompted to do so by my own personal feelings and the sincere wish to see your Excellency elevated to the position that you so justly merit.
Yours truly
