Gov. Yates Springfield Ill.

Dr Sir

I have been informed that you appoint all chaplains for the Ill. Regiments. If this is so, I wish to make application to secure the Rev. J. S. Moore's (my brother) appointment as Chaplain for Col. Dougherty's Regiment now at Camp Koerner Belleville My brother is a Methodist Minister, is a native of St Clair, a graduate of McKendree College, and has been preaching four or five years.

He is young and active and is ready & willing to serve his country in any capacity. He is sound on all questions respective our government. We are of old antislavery Whig stock, proud sons of Risdon Moore of St Clair who took no small part in making and keeping Ill a free state.

Yours truly

R. M. Moore

P.S. If you wish any reference I could refer you to the Rev. J. B. Covington Jerseville Ill.
