Commissioner's Office.

Joliet July 17th 1861

Hon: Richd: Yates

Springfield Ills:

Dear Gov:

I have the pleasure of introducing to your favorable consideration Mr Robert A Gilmore of Chicago.

A young man of sterling integrity, of first rate business habits, and of unexceptionable moral character.

Mr Gilmore seeks an appointment in the Ill Volunteers. I have known him long and well and know that he will not aspire to a position that he is not fully competent to fill. H has been engaged in the service of the Rock Island Rail Road Co for several years to their entire satisfaction.

If you can consistently comply his wishes, you will confer a personal favor upon me.

Truly Yours &

Ira A M Back
