Hon. Isaac N. Arnold
Washington DC
Dear Sir:
Mr. D. W. Lusk the Editor and proprietor of the Shawneetown Mercury writes me that in order to do some good service during the coming campaign it would require some assistance and asks me to obtain for him some some government advertising. Lusk was among the first to come over to us after the breaking out of the Rebellion and he and his paper have ever since done valuable service for our party. It is necessary that all possible efforts be made in Southern Illinois and if it is possible for you to get him as much of
public printing as can be had, he will render us very valuable assistance. I would be obliged to you for any assistance in that direction.
Yours truly
Richd Yates
Governor
