Wm. B. Hamon.
Co. G. 9th Regt Ills. Vols.
Alabama.
Dear Sir:
Each recruit is mustered "for three years unless sooner discharged." Veteran Volunteers are organized by reenlistments of men on regiments that have been in service two years. The recruits which joined the regiment last Sept of that was the date of their original Enlistment will not be mustered out with the regiment as originally organized or in other words will not be mustered out at same time of those who enlisted in 1861 at time of organization of the regiment. They can now reenlist as Veterans, but the recruits of less than two years service cannot. When the regiment of three years men are mustered out the recruits will be assigned [illegible] 3 yrs to [illegible]
Very Respectfully
Richd. Yates.
Governor.
