To his Excellency

Richd Yates, Governor

Dear Sir,

One of our most esteemed citizens, Capt Paul Walter, of this County, having had occasion lately to visit your city, and to call upon you, in reference to matters pertaining to the good of this section of the State, we leanr with surprise that his loyalty has been assailed there since his departure, by some person to us unknown. We earnestly desire to counteract any evil results which might arise from so unfounded and glaring a mis-representation. If there are any loyal men in this County, the Captain is surely one, and the Equal of any of us, and all confidence that may be reposed in him will not be mis-placed.

We do this not only in justice to

Capt Walter, but for our common benefit

Very Respectfully

Yours Truly

J. W. Kitchell

I will add that Capt. Walter has a company of men, about 80 strong whose loyalty is undoubted and have been our principal reliance here in case of any outbreak. The Capt having his men so arranged to bring them together at short notice.

Respectfully

J.T. Eccles

Persons who assail Capt Paul Walters loyalty are doing him great injustice, furthermore that he is deserving of much confidence and is the principal reliance in case of an outbreak in the county. The Capt has his men so arranged, that they can readily be brought together.
