To the Commanding Officer:

U S Forces at Nashville Tenn.

Sir: This will introduce to your favorable attention a worthy, loyal citizen of this city, Mr Wm. Bishop, whose son Lieutenant Wm. Bishop of "Bridges Battery" Ills. Volunteers was killed in recent battle of Chickamauga He wishes to visit the Army of the Cumberland at Chattanooga. I will be greatly obliged if you will afford him facilities which may be necessary, passes &c &c.
