My Dear Sir

My Means being entirely exhausted I was compelled by necessity to draw on you for $300_ due 1 & 4 Jan: 1865. This I regretted much but My will explain the matter to your Satisfaction. This is sooner than I can have any allowance made by the Legislature but I hope you will have the draft accepted and any expense attending it will be paid you by Mr Long who will be in Springfield and who is hereby authorized to receive whatever monies may be appropriated for My benefit. I wrote a long letter a few days since to Col Snyder and requested him to show it to you. I Know I need not ask my old friend to do all he can for me for I am assured that he will do it. My wife will explain every thing in relation to my affairs and I hope she may be successfull in all things
Allow Me My dear friend to congratulate you upon the recent glorious victory that we have secured in both State and nation and to none is there more praise due than to yourself and I hope that your star may still be successfull in your election to the Senate
Sincerely Your friend Wm M Long
