              Governor,
                            Some time ago you kindly undertook (at the solicitation of the mother), to procure the discharge from the service of the United States, James George Milton Bayly Co A. 66th Ills. Vols, to unable him to contribute to the support of his widowed mother, and sent to her the answer  You rec'd from the adjutant Generals office, stating that "as the soldier had deserted no action in the case could be taken" -
                           Mrs Bird the mother desires to state that the said Bayly was arrested last summer in this county (Douglas) & returned to the service & was on the 30th (Sept)? a prisoner at Chattanooga.  I beg that you will do something for her _  Very Respectfully

Mrs Bird the mother of J.G.M. Bailey in whose behalf the Govr made application for discharge & the answer to which was that he was a Deserter has stated to him that Bailey was arrested & returned to his Regt Wants him discharged
