Dr Sir:

            Stephen Child Son of Benj'n of Calhoun, long on Palmers staff, wants a Com. in an Illinois regt. so as again to go on Palmers staff.  He fought well throughout and was most favorably noticed in several reports.
             You have never done anything for me, narry once.  Now do it. If not I give you notice now - Solemnly, - in view of Eternity, - that when you get here your sleep will be disturbed, with nothing but cold victuals, &. &. Seriously - Can't you help him?
