Your letter was duly received, for which accept many thanks - I have yet another inquiry to make which is all important to us. It is said by some here that Government will take a certain amount in money in place of a substitute which I fear will be difficult to obtain, there are so many gone in the Army from this neighbourhood, is it so? and if true please let me know by return mail; I am sorry to trouble you so much but you being a father can in some degree judge what an old mothers feelings are, and will render her much importunity - With due respect
