Governer of the State of Illinois.

Honerable Sir. I take my pen in hand to inform you that I wish to enter the West Point Millitary Academy as a pay cadet. i will be 15 years of age the 25th of November next. I am 5 feet 4 inches in highth and periportioned accordingly. I have a tolerable good education for a country boy. I do not know how to prceed in order to get a situation in the academy but was informed that I would have to write to you I would like to have you write an answer as soon as you get this if convenient and Inform me how I am to proceed how soon I can get in there and all about it.
