  it is against My Felings to aplie to you in regards to this mater i hold a ganst, Captan J. A. Rutherford he is Not Sent Mee a doller of it i have Retten .2. Letters to him Since you told Mee that you had retten to him.  he is not Sent Mee. No. answer i ham in grat Need i ham Totley Blind With One eye and very neer Sited With the Other  Wich (en?ers) Mee from Work So My Poor Wife as ben Out Washing to try to Help to get Bread for My Family till the (Woman?) is gatt Sick i have Seven Children to Supart and My dear frend you now at this dear time it cost a gradeal to Keep a Family Like that.  Been a flicted in My Sight to i have no Relasians near thay ar a Way a Cross the See i Shall Be Truly thankfull if you Can asiste Mee to get My Pen Sans Money From the Captan. a Small Trifle Will Bee Thankfully Received if it is in your Power to Relieve Mee . -

 The Captain is Been Well a quanted With My Case i think he is acting very dishonorable to Try to Hold Back the Money that belongs to his Men that is Fort So hard By His Side i Morn the loss of My Poor Son very Much. Butt i Feell Thankfull to Say that he could not of died a Mor honable deth then for his Cuntry an is God i hope With the blessings of God i Shall hear from you Soon
