Hon
Richard Yates
Governor
Dr Sir
While in the Hospital this morning Dr Wright handed Me your letter asking that J. W. Lane be furloughed or discharged _
The Doctor would cheerfuly comply but unfortunately he has not the privilege; he told Me however that he would have the man examined and send the report with your letter to Dr Cooper Medical Director of the Department. _ I saw Lane and think it doubtful if his is a case even for furlough.
Dr Wright suggested that the Governor make direct application to the Secretary of War or Surgeon General for an order to send all Illinois Soldiers who would not be fit for service in 30 or 60 Days home on furlough or to Hospitals in the State. _ Could such an order be obtained it would have an excellent effect on the Army and Country and relieve many a man who is now
pining away._
I have taken measures to ascertain the Number in Hospitals in the Department & will forward it soon as made up.
Very Resply
