                   Chicago Sept. 6 1864

Dear Govr

         I yesterday called upon Capt Harty of U.S. Navy.  He told me if you would send me a letter to secy of Navy asking for the appointment of my son George G. Wilson as acting Masters mate in the navy he would undertake to get George the appointment and Govr this would relieve me beyond more than any other one thing you could do for me  Will you send me such a letter at once stating that he is intelligent, competent etc & that he attended a Military school for three years.  He is now twenty our years also _  I have not heard from a letter I wrote you some days since _ suppose you

have been so occupied that you have not reached it
