Governor Yates

          Respected Sir
As I have been an inmate of this Hospital some three months, & being a member of the 44th Ills. Reg't. & my time of service having expired I wish to go to my own state to await the Regt there to be mustered out. & I am about well & have some thoughts of entering my Country's service again As I am the only one from that Reg't here & I have tried to get to Springfield but without success. I therefore hope you will use your influence in having me sent to my own state As I have No Roll here, they wish to keep me here & muster me out at this place but I have no desire to remain here

& be mustered from the service for I have been with the boys of my Reg't in all there Hardships, until within the last three months, & I wish to be with them when the arrive at Springfield, Ills. Governor, as you are a friend to all Soldiers of Ills I hope you will do all you can in my behalf. I was speaking to Surgeon G Grant, in charge, this morning & he gave me no satisfaction. Therefore I appeal to your generosity, & hope this will receive prompt attention & I hope you will answer & oblige your unworthy servant

Miles Roland Pr. Co. C' 44 Reg't Ills. Vol. Inft.
