Honorable Richard Yates Springfield Ills

Dear Sir

have you any place in the cavalry service for a veterinary surgeon that claims to understand his profession if so I would be considered an applicant. I have lived in Ills for 12 years was veterinary sargeant under the old discipline of the Notable 5th Ills Cavelry & was mustered out by spetial order 526 if I mistake not. Since which time I have obtained my diploma from the Boston school located at Chicago, I would Like to be doing more for my Country than I at presant am doing & since we are by Law allowed the proper title & 75 in stead of 17 dollars pr month allowed. as I served 15 months for 17$ under title of veterinary sargent. Now sir if you could give me an appointment on the Potomac prefered, but would accept one most any place, I would cheerfully accept. I would say, I have been treating Government Horses at Mattoon Ills some 5 months, have handled govt Horses near 3 years altogether have practiced for 14 years, can show a clar record, verry Respectfully your

obedient servant C. K. Gifford VC
