Gov Yates -

I have served 3 years in the 26 Ills. Regt. as Chief Musician. I was in the Battles of New Madrid, Corinth, Iuka, Vicksburg and Jackson Miss, which you can see by referring to my record.

I cannot explain all to you in this short note, but allow me to say, if you could give me a position in some of those State Organizations you will confer a favor which you will admit is deserving when you learn all the particulars and which you shall never have occasion to regret.

For further information I have the honor to refer your excellency to Col. J. R. Woods, J. T. Reynolds, Col Williams, Mrs Hawly and Mr. Erwin of this City.

Very respectfully,

S. S. Wood
