My Dear governor
I inclose you the within from a member of the 39th Ills Inf. in Hospital Newark N. J. desiring to be transfered to an Illinois Hospital before the Election, in order that they may be furloughed home to vote for Lincoln, as I presume, will you take the matter under favorable consideration, and confer a favor on your obedient servant

Hearing that you was a candidate for the Legislator I belive. There is ten or twelve members of the 39th Ills vet Vol or better know in the State as the Yates Phalanx in this Hospt we are desirous of getting transfered to a Hospt in our own state before the Election and being the only Ills Regt in the East or at least the Army of the Potomac we are not thought of by our Governor. I with one other live in Dewitt County & we are all or the most of us want to get a chance to vote for Lincoln if you are at Springfield will you please mention it to the Governor or Some one that will see to getting us transfered Beliving you are a true friend of the Soldier & union I am Yours &c. &c.
