Gov Yates

Respected Sir

I have been in the service of my country over three years and the history of my regiment will tell what service I have seen it being the 16th" Ill having not had but one short furlough have not seen a portion of my relatives for that length of time and not being able for service in the ranks I respectively if it be consistent solicit a furlough or your aid in procuring one.

I will say this much in regard to My-Self that I have been in the ranks doing a soldiers duty while others have the pleasure of seeing friends and relatives I would not have addressed but knowing your generosity and kindness to those who are fighting their countries battles I presumed to address you believing you would listen to the prayers of a private soldier with the same leniency

and action you would those who are favored with bars and Stars

I subscriby My self Very

respectfully Your Ob.t. Serv.t.
