Hd Qrs 34th Comp 2nd Batt V.R.C.
Mound City Ills
Oct 10th 1864
His Excellency Richard Yates Gov,
Sir
We have the honor to enquire if arrangements may not be made by which members of the 34th Company and other Illinois Soldiers in U S Genl Hospital at this place shall be permitted to go home on furlough so that they can have the privilege of Voting at the November Election. Their are about one hundred and sixty Voters in all and we are of the opinion that in the coming Struggle Every loyal man in the Country ought if possible to be allowed the privilege of casting his vote. And we have thought if it has not already been done that an arrangement might be made for Illinois Soldiers Similar to that which has been made for Indiana Soldiers
