St Louis Oct 10th

Dear Friend

Possibly you may have seen in the St Louis Prints an Order emanating from the Department HdQrs dismissing me from the service in consequence of alleged "gross and unpardonable neglect of duty," in allowing a prisoner to escape on the route to Alton. I do not propose now to write out a full statement of the facts, which I am satisfied will show that I have been most deeply wronged, but merely to say that if you are in Springfield I mean to come up, during the week with affidavits of witnesses

& my own statement, doubting not that you will as a personal friend do what you can conscientiously, in my behalf to have the sentence revoked at Washington. It is sufficient to say in this connection that I have been condemned without any trial ; without any opportunity to collect evidence, by men from the nature of the case interested to convict me, that upon the [illegible] expressed [illegible] of my friends including Missers Drake Glover Blair & numerous others whom I could name, the sentence is strongly condemned. I believe I shall come out all right. Till then, I know you you will withold any opinion adverse to my cause

Believe me Governor

You attached friend

T. A. Post.
