Dear Sir

I take the privilege of writing to you begging your assistance in procuring a discharge for John D Cawood belonging to the 101st Regiment Company B. Ills Vols I pray you to petition for an honorable discharge so he can come home to assist in making a support for his family consisting of myself and four children I have done all within my power to keep them from suffering if my husband cannot be discharged I must have some help as we are in sufferance at this time everything being so dear all the work that I can do will not procure a sufficient quantity of bread my health is poor and I cannot see how I will keep my children together without assistance So I will close begging you to do what you can and answer my letter if you please
