Mr Yates
Sir I now seat myself to write you a few lines containing my distress of my son who is now in the U.S. Hospital at Mound City Illinois he was persuaded to go into the army he left home last Febuary and he was only a little past sixteen years old and he is an invalid besids he has not been able for duty but about one month during all the time he has been gone he has been at Little Rock Arkansas all the time untill the last two weeks and then he was brought to Mound City with seven hundred other sick soldiers he is not able to be in the service and I don't see why they will keep a child there to die his ankle has been broken twice he has been mashed in his breast by a wagon turning over on him and he has been stabbed and then he was struck in the back with a rock which gives him
a great deal of misery now and I cant see why it was that he would be taken into the army when he is so crippled up and afflicted and now I want you if you please (as friend to get him a discharge and send him home to me I am a poor widow and have trouble enough without having him away from me sick and not half taken care of if he was at home I could take care of him a little better than he now is taken care of at least I would be better satisfied and now if you please I want you to answer these few lines immeadiately and let me know what can be done if you doubt any of these statements I can get plenty of witneses to prove it to you so please to let me know as soon as possible
Yours humbly
