Tamaroa Perry Co. Ill. 25 Oct. 1864
To Richard Yates
Gov of Ill
Dear Sir
Henry A. Tate a native of Limestone County Alabama was formerly a soldier in the Rebel Army. On the 21 day of June last he took the oath of allegiance at Nashville Tenn. He was then required to proceed immediately to Louisville Ky. where he again took the oath 2 June 64 with the addition "and that I will go immediately North of the Ohio River and not return during the war"
He has large means at the South, but has no means here. He is anxious to go to Nashville Tenn. in order to make arrangements for obtaining his means of support and doing business. He has been here most of the time since he came North and his deportment, added to other means of judging him has secured him the good will of those with whom he has become best acquainted, and he can give & is entirely willing to give bond in any amount required with ample security that he will do nothing unbecoming a loyal man and that he will return to this place, or to any place
you prescribe in this state and report to any officer you will name in such time as you require and comply with all other conditions which you impose.
Can you authorise him to go to Nashville?
Very Respectfully
B. G. Roots
