Scott PO. La-Salle. Co. Ills Oct 29th 1864
Governor Yates
It will be a very great favor to me if you can give me a position as clerk in any Dept of the State Govt, as I am a disabled soldier of the 104th Ills Infty. I was 1st Sergt Co "D" 104th Ills as the records in the Adj't Genl's office will show and was discharged at Keokuk Iowa Sept 22 1864 on a/c of wound recd at the Battle of Resaca, Ga May 14/64. I am acquainted with the business of the Commissary Dept having been employed as clerk at Gallatin Tenn during the winter of 1862-3 while the regt were paroled prisoners at Camp Douglas. If you can give me any place either in or out of the State you will confer a lasting favor as I am not able to perform hard labor on a farm & am obliged to do something for a living
If you wish further proof of my identity I can get a recommendation from my Capt Wm H Collins or Col A B Moore of Ottawa or others
Please write me a line in reply on this paper & remail it in the enclosed envelope that I may know what to depend on
Very Respectfully George Marsh Jr
